This guide walks you through creating a "Frequently Bought Together" bundle that increases average order value by suggesting complementary products.
Step 1: Create a New Widget
Go to Bundles in the sidebar
Click Create Bundle
Select Frequently Bought Together (Modern) or Frequently Bought Together (Classic) as the bundle type
Give your bundle a name (e.g., "Jewelry Collection Bundle")
Step 2: Connect a Data Rule
Data rules determine which products appear in your bundle.
Go to the Settings tab
Under Connected Data Rules, select an existing data rule from the dropdown
Set the Product Limit (maximum number of products to display)
Modern layout: Up to 3 products
Classic layout: Up to 100 products
Click Save
Note: Data Rules are created and configured separately in the Data Rules section. If you donβt have any data rules yet, create one first.
Important: Bundles without a connected Data Rule will not be displayed on your storefront.
Step 3: Choose Layout Style
Go to the Settings tab and expand Layout Settings:
Layout Type
Modern - Card-based product display with prominent images and sleek checkbox selection
Classic - Amazon-style horizontal arrangement with plus signs between products
Step 4: Set Up Tiered Discounts
Go to Settings and expand Discount Behavior:
Toggle Enable Tiered Discounts to on
Click Add Tier to create discount tiers
For each tier, configure:
Tier Label - Display text (e.g., "Buy 2, Save 10%")
Required Items - Number of items needed for this tier
Discount Type - Percentage or Fixed Amount
Discount Value - The discount amount
Discount Message - Message shown in cart

Tier 1: Buy 2 items β 10% off
Tier 2: Buy 3+ items β 15% off

Step 5: Save and Publish
Click Save Changes
Toggle status to Live
Copy the Widget ID from the widget editor
Add the widget to your theme using the Shopify theme editor
Common Questions
How many products should be in a bundle?
It depends on your layout. Modern bundles support up to 3 products, while Classic bundles can have up to 100. For best results, 3-4 products works well for most stores.
What if a bundle product is out of stock?
This depends on your connected Data Rule configuration. You can choose to hide out-of-stock items or keep them visible.
Can one product be in multiple bundles?
Yes, your Data Rules can include the same product in different bundles based on context.
